Description

Participants will learn how to design and deliver an online course using Canvas LMS. This course will guide participants in creating their own course, adding engaging content, assessing student learning, and communicating effectively using Canvas.

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)
These courses are open entry/exit with no enrollment cap. All coursework and assignments can be completed at the participants own pace. There is very limited instructor interaction.

Due to the large number of participants in these courses grading is done on a monthly rotation, usually on the first Monday of each month. Please understand these expectations before registering for this course.

 

Objectives

 

  • Identify and apply best practices of online teaching and learning by designing a learning unit supported by online components in Canvas
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of accepted instructional design principles by creating a unit of study in Canvas LMS
  • Understand how to use Canvas tools and features commonly used to deliver instruction by creating assignments, discussions and assessments, and use the communication tools built into Canvas

Jared Covili specializes in teaching strategies for classroom integration of technology such as Google tools, geospatial learning, social media, and digital devices. Jared's background is in secondary education where he was a Language Arts teacher at the secondary level. Jared received his Bachelors degree in English and his Masters degree in Instructional Design and Educational Technology from the University of Utah.

Besides his work at UEN, Jared is also an adjunct faculty member of the College of Education at the University of Utah, where he teaches technology integration classes to undergraduate students. Jared served as the president of Utah Coalition for Educational Technology for 2011-2012 and currently serves on the UCET board, moderating #UTedChat and organizing Edcamp Utah. Jared is the author of Going Google and Classroom in the Cloud.
